Hurricane Preparedness

Important Hurricane Season Reminder

Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. Residents are encouraged to prepare early, monitor official weather sources, and review evacuation plans before a storm threatens our area. The Deep Creek Section 23 POA does not issue evacuation orders. Always follow guidance from Charlotte County Emergency Management. 


Quick Preparedness Checklist

Know your evacuation zone

Review your family emergency plan

Prepare supplies for at least 7 days

Secure outdoor furniture and decorations

Check generators, batteries, and flashlights

Keep important documents in a waterproof container

Prepare for pets and special medical needs

Sign up for emergency alerts


Know Your Zone

Charlotte County utilizes evacuation zones to help protect residents during severe weather events. Click here Know Your Zone

Residents are encouraged to determine their evacuation zone before a storm threatens our area and have a plan in place should evacuation become necessary.


Build an Emergency Supply Kit

Recommended supplies include:

• Drinking water

• Non-perishable food

• Flashlights and batteries

• First aid kit

• Prescription medications

• Cell phone chargers and backup batteries

• Cash

• Important personal documents

• Pet food and supplies


Shelter Information

Public shelters may be opened by Charlotte County during emergencies when conditions warrant. All Charlotte County shelters are pet-friendly.

Shelters should be considered a last resort. Residents are encouraged to make plans with family, friends, or hotels whenever possible.

Hurricane Watch

Hurricane conditions are possible within 48 hours. Review plans and prepare.

Hurricane conditions are expected within 36 hours. Complete preparations immediately.

Tropical storm conditions are possible within 48 hours.

Tropical Storm Warning

Tropical storm conditions are expected within 36 hours.
